Saw Arthur Jeffes’ wonderful Sundog at the Purcell Room last night. All great music including lots of stripped down versions of his Penguin Cafe tracks and his father’s orginal Penguin Cafe Orchestra material.

I can’t find any Sundog footage, so here is some Penguin Cafe Orchestra from 1989.

Koala, Mule, Horse

This week:

  • I went along to the Kid Koala graphic novel / soundtrack launch. The Kid only played a couple of tracks and most of the evening just provided some great background music while people sat around and sketched. It was pleasant.


  • Meant to go and see Miraculous Mule at the 100 Club, but didn’t. They make a wonderful scuzzed-up gospel blues sound that you should experience.


  • Saw Race Horses at the Lexington.  This appears to be becoming a bit of a habit. They were great.


Race Horses

I was in Wales last week and saw Race Horses at Gwyl Chwilog festival. It was an unusual do, a big tent set up in the grounds of a country pub with the main attraction appearing to be the bar with Race Horses brilliant set being mostly ignored by the audience, as was the band on before them, Yr Ods, who also put on a great performance despite the complete lack of interest.
